Philosophy: "As the son and grandson of physicians, I always knew that I wanted to become a doctor. I just couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I grew up with the notion that it is a privilege and honor to be able to do something that helps others.

“In medical school, I found myself drawn to surgery, because it is the direct resolution of a problem. I also found that I liked the technical challenge of vascular surgery and found it satisfying... and the specialty in which I could make a difference in people’s lives. But what remained unsatisfying was the surgical ‘stripping’ procedure used to treat varicose veins.

“When the new minimally invasive procedure first became available, I wanted to be able to provide the care that could provide excellent results, with far less hassle. A decade-plus later, I’m proud to have been able to help thousands of patients. And I remain committed to leading with a sense of compassion and to providing the most complete, appropriate and effective care for varicose and spider veins.”

Personally: Dr. Widmeyer is an active member of his community and very involved in his church and  enjoys the outdoors as a hunter and obstacle course racer. Married and the father of adult twin sons, Dr. Widmeyer has worked with World Medical Mission and has traveled to Kenya and Niger to perform surgery in mission hospitals.  He also served as a civilian volunteer vascular surgeon at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, treating injured soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.

In his own words, Dr. Widmeyer says: “I feel blessed to have the ability and expertise that I have.  I love taking something that is complex and unknown to a patient, and making it understandable, and then offering a safe and minimally invasive, state-of-the-art solution to that problem, and sharing in their joy and relief when the problem is solved.”
